   In my travels around Aroostook County I found ice beginning to darken on Portage Lake, still not seeing any open water at the entrance of Fish River
   Eagle Lake shows some spots with open water but few and far between. There was a very small spot of open water on Daigle Pond.
   On Thurs 4/18 I watched small ice flow drifting down the St John River from Ft Kent to Madawaska. The water was fairly high and seemed to have cleaned any remains of ice from the banks. I spotted Canadian geese and Mallard ducks in puddles in fields and the cows were sunning themselves on the Flat Mountain Road. Some of the fields are melted completely but others still are snow covered, but all of the above show hope for spring.
